World Cup winner Shivam Dube’s exclusion from India’s T20I team for the upcoming five-match series against England has brought the BCCI’s selection committee under yet another microscope. A year ago, he was a part of the team that had won the T20 World Cup, but he seems to have been left out by head coach Gautam Gambhir and chief selector Ajit Agarkar, who seem to have forgotten about him. Indian management is looking for Nitish Kumar Reddy as the reserve fast-bowling all-rounder with Hardik Pandya.

Aakash Chopra Questions Exclusion Of Shivam Dube

Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra has questioned the exclusion of Dube, given his contribution in the World Cup final. Dube played a vital cameo, while scoring 27 off 16 balls in the final against South Africa, a knock that played a key role in India’s victory. Although his World Cup campaign was not standout throughout, his performance in the high-pressure final, this is one of the most memorable moments of his career. Dube, along with a handful of others who had a breakthrough at the World Cup, finds himself now to be out of the series for England, even after he participated in India’s T20I tours following the World Cup.

“What happened to Shivam Dube? I wanted to talk about Ruturaj (Gaikwad) as well but he is not able to make his place. Rajat Patidar is also there. Obviously, there is a lot of batting. However, now I am going to focus a little bit on Shivam Dube. He was a member of the T20 World Cup-winning team,” he said.

Dube Left Out Despite Playing Well

“When you win, everyone should get the credit. He even played decently in the final. Before that, there were definitely some questions that he wasn’t fielding or batting well. However, then he played well and became the T20 World Cup champion,” Chopra observed.

Where Did Dube Go?

“After that, he remained injured a little, didn’t get too many opportunities either, and is now out of the team. No one is talking about him as well. Riyan Parag is not being talked about because he is injured but no one is asking where Dube went. He suddenly disappeared from the horizon,” he said.

Shivam Dube Worthy Of Playing For Few Years

“If he was good enough to be a part of the World Cup squad, I am sure he would be worthy of playing for another one or two years. He has remained out because of injury, but there was a theory earlier that whoever goes out due to injury, will come back in first, and whoever replaced him would have to sit out no matter what he might have done,” Chopra elaborated.
