Kohli, present soon after his Test retirement, was in awe of Djokovic’s performance, which he termed a real “gladiator” display. Off his 100th Wimbledon victory a feat only accomplished by Martina Navratilova and Roger Federer before him Djokovic is now only three wins short of capturing a record 25th Grand Slam crown. A Wimbledon victory would also equate him with Federer for eight men’s singles championships at SW19 and make him the Open Era’s oldest major champion.
Nevertheless, Jannik Sinner is a big threat. The Italian might face Djokovic in the semifinals, but he had a scare himself on Monday evening. Grigor Dimitrov retired hurt after claiming the first two sets in their round of 16 encounter, which means Sinner made it through and potentially set up a fireworks-laden meeting later in the week.
