India’s ODI vice-captain Shreyas Iyer has finally returned home and started his recovery process but despite that he is most likely to miss the upcoming three-match ODI series against South Africa. The series will be starting from November 30, but Iyer is still trying to recover and rest after he sustained a serious spleen injury.
In the third ODI against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground, Shreyas Iyer took a stunning diving catch and dismissed Alex Carey but as soon as he fell on the ground he was seen in immense pain. Since returning to India, Iyer now remains under medical supervision and doctors have adviced him to take full month rest to achieve full fitness. Now according to The Indian Express, the injury was extremely critical and Iyer’s oxygen levels dropped to 50 which caused a brief health scare.
“He wasn’t able to stand properly for nearly 10 minutes. There was a complete blackout around him, and it took some time for him to return to normal,” a source in the Indian board confirmed to Indian Express
“The board and selection committee don’t want to rush him back after the injury,” another official said. “He will take more time to be fully fit, and his participation in the South Africa series looks doubtful.”
India’s ODI series against South Africa scheduled to be played in Ranchi, Raipur, and Visakhapatnam but before that two-match Test series will be played starting from November 14.
