Shai Hope, the West Indies skipper scored his 17th ODI century during the second ODI against England at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua on November 2, Saturday. With this achievement, Hope is now tied for the position of third-highest century maker for West Indies in ODIs. After struggling with just 29 runs in his previous eight matches, Hope made a strong return to form.
After being asked to bat first after West Indies elected to field, the side was soon in early difficulty when, at only two wickets down and scoring only 12 runs, Hope’s century helped post a competitive total. He equals Desmond Haynes’s score of 17 centuries to stand second on the all-time list after Chris Gayle’s 25 centuries and the all-time record of Brian Lara’s 19.

Shai Hope Hits Magnificent Hundred
Hope showed he has it in him as a 50-over batter as he hit 117 off 127 balls with eight boundaries and four sixes. He came in to bat at a crucial moment just after the loss of opener Evin Lewis who had managed only four runs on the very first ball of the fourth over. Maintaining his cool, composed self, Hope started reverse batting and with Keacy Carty anchored the innings. He took his fifty to the 23rd over with a six off Jacob Bethell, but it was Adil Rashid of England, who provided the much-needed breakthrough in their 143-run stand.

Shai Hope’s Century Helped WI Set A Target Of 328
Hope was instrumental to West Indies laying a proper foundation as Sherfane Rutherford scored briskly to amass 54 off 36 balls. Then, Shimron Hetmyer added quick fire with 24 off just 11. Hope stabilized the batting throughout the innings with his hundred coming off a single ball of the 44th over off the bowing of Saqib Mahmood. It was already a motivational factor trying to set a highly tough target of 328 runs.
