Buttler had come in early when Phil Salt got out on a golden duck on the first ball of his England career, dismissed by West Indies spinner Akeal Hosein. The England captain did not give his team a chance to get out of line, capitalizing on a West Indies bowling attack not at full strength due to a three-game suspension for suspended pacer Alzarri Joseph; injured all-rounder Andre Russell; and debutant seamer Terrance Hinds, who had a rough debut.

Buttler seemed poised to notch a second T20I hundred but was sent back after a sharp chance at extra cover was spilled by Sherfane Rutherford off Romario Shepherd in the 13th over. He was dismissed off the very next ball, miscuing an attempted heave that found West Indies skipper Rovman Powell at long-off.

Will Jacks Takes The Control From Other End

However, Buttler’s sojourn with Will Jacks, who batted wonderfully for 38 from 29 balls, really mattered as the pairing had scored 129 runs for the second wicket. Later, Buttler confesses to the media after being given the “Man of the Match” that it started a bit scratchy, but once he got going, he really enjoyed it. It was great to be back out there. Two important wickets came West Indies’ way; one of them was that of Jacks, caught on the boundary by Matthew Forde.

Key Bowling Spells Dismantle West Indies

Liam Livingstone shone with the ball as he took 2/16 while then finishing off the match with an unbeaten 23 off 11 balls. Apart from him Dan Mousley and Saqib Mahmood also picked two wickets each making sure that the West Indies batters were not set on the crease.

Powell And Shepherd Shine With Bat For WI

Earlier in the innings of West Indies, it was faltering with Powell scoring top on 43 from 41 balls. A late flourish from Shepherd, 22 from 12 balls, and some useful contributions from the tail had only left the West Indies in a precarious position when the score was 102 for 6 after Powell’s dismissal in the 16th over.
