WI Vs AUS: Dog Invades Pitch, Drone Used After Pat Cummins & Josh Hazlewood Fail To Chase It Off

Australia ended Day 3 on 221/7 in their second innings, 254 runs ahead. Steve Smith scored the highest with a sedate 71, while Alex Carey (26) and Pat Cummins (4) stuck around to stumps, all set for an interesting conclusion.

Day 2 of the second Australia-West Indies Test in Grenada saw a light-hearted but strange interruption that had nothing to do with rain or the pitch. Instead, it was an unexpected visit by a black dog that put play momentarily on hold. This time it happened just after Josh Hazlewood dismissed Roston Chase and left West Indies at 124/4 in the 33rd over. To the amusement of all, the dog walked onto the pitch and stayed at deep cover, as if oblivious to the Australian players’ efforts, including Hazlewood and captain Pat Cummins, who attempted to entice it off the field.

When all else failed, the broadcasters made a rare move dispatching a drone to peacefully shoo the dog away. The whirring drone eventually worked, eliciting laughter from players and the thin crowd alike. Windies Cricket caught the moment best on social media with the caption: “A brief intrusion by a furry friend.”

Ironically, the delay proved to be in West Indies’ advantage. Following the hold-up, Brandon King and Shai Hope shared a vital 58-run partnership the biggest of their innings that saw them reach 253 in answer to Australia’s 286. Hazlewood, who had previously dismissed Chase LBW after Cummins successfully reviewed the decision on the superstitious score of 111, was struck for a six by King shortly after play resumed.
