Rohit Sharma posted about his retirement on his Instagram Story, which read “Hello everyone, I would just like to share that I am retiring from Test cricket. It’s been an absolute honour to represent my country in whites. Thank you for all the love and support over the years. I will continue to represent India in the ODI format.”

Even though the reason for Rohit Sharma’s retirement remains undisclosed, there were speculations before that he was about to be sacked from Test cricket captaincy. Currently there is no official statement from BCCI or the Indian skipper on the same.

Rohit Sharma had a lean patch leading India against New Zealand and Australia. As the captain of the Indian team Rohit Sharma faced its first-ever 3-0 defeat at home against New Zealand. The Border-Gavaskar series became a record-breaking defeat for Team India under Rohit’s captaincy when they ended with 3-1 loss against Australia.
