The officials of the BCCI and chief selector Ajit Agarkar, head coach Gautam Gambhir, Indian captain Rohit Sharma met in Mumbai on Saturday in a review meeting as India has a dismal run of six defeats in its last eight tests including a series whitewash in home territory. The point of discussion among all was Indian Test and ODI captaincy in the near future. Rohit Sharma has apparently accepted to continue in the position until selectors find a replacement. The selectors also decided that Rohit will still be India’s ODI captain while the decision on his successor in the format will be taken after the ICC Champions Trophy.
Rohit Sharma To Stay Captain Until New One Comes
According to a report by Dainik Jagran, Rohit Sharma told BCCI officials that: “he will remain the skipper for the next few months until the board chooses the future captain” and that whoever is picked will have his “full support.”

Can Jasprit Bumrah Be The Next Test Captain?
Suryakumar Yadav was appointed as India’s T20I team captain in July last year after Rohit stepped down from the format following the T20 World Cup. During the meeting, the name of Jasprit Bumrah was mentioned as a potential candidate for future leadership. Bumrah led India to their only win since October in the T20 format, where they thrashed Australia in Perth comprehensively, with Rohit being absent for the birth of his second child. He also led India in Sydney, but that match ended in defeat after he suffered back spasms.
However, there were concerns raised about Bumrah’s ability to handle the pressure of leading India in a five-match series, especially given his workload management issues. The BCCI has decided to delay further discussions on Bumrah’s potential as a future captain.
