Vaishavi Sharma is a left-arm spinner from Madhya Pradesh who received her first senior India cap on December 21, Sunday. She was named in the playing XI for the first T20I against Sri Lanka in Vizag. This match marks India’s first step in preparation for the upcoming T20 World Cup, scheduled to be held in England next June.

Vaishnavi was a part of India’s Under-19 squad that lifted Women’s T20 World Cup earlier this year along with her teammate G.Kamalini. The spinner finished the U-19 World Cup as the tournament’s highest wicket-taker, claiming 17 wickets, and has carried that form into domestic cricket, taking 21 wickets in the Senior Women’s T20 Trophy and a tournament-best 12 wickets from five matches in the Senior Women’s Inter-Zonal T20s.
Vaishnavi hails from Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh and she is also the first cricketer in women’s category from Chambal region to get selected in the national team. She was recently awarded the Jagmohan Dalmiya Trophy for Best Woman Cricketer in the junior domestic season of 2022-23.

She started playing cricketer at a very young age of five and did her practice at the Tansen Cricket Academy in Gwalior. Vaishnavi did long hours of practice and hard work to finally gain success. Vaishnavi joins fellow Madhya Pradesh star Kranti Gaud, whose impactful performances in the recent World Cup had already earned her recognition at the national level.
Vaishnavi’s father is also an astrologer and a professor at the Gwalior’s Jiwaji University. He examined his daughter’s horoscope and highlighted her potential in medicine and sports. Following which he even encouraged his daughter to focus on sports.
