Narayan Jagadeesan, a wicket-keeper from Tamil Nadu has earned his maiden Test call up after Rishabh Pant got ruled out due to fractured toe. On the Day 1 of fourth Test, India received a massive setback as Rishabh Pant was hit by a ball on his foot while batting due to which he was seen in immense pain and was escorted off the field in a buggy. He was immediately sent to the hospital and report from the scans conducted showed that he had a fractured toe.
Who Is Narayan Jagadeesan
At the age of 29, Jagadeesan will be travelling to England after he received his visa on Sunday to join the Indian Team squad. In total, Narayan Jagadeesan has played 52 first-class matches in which he has smashed 10 centuries and 14 half-centuries. He has scored 3373 runs with an average of 47.50.
In the Ranji Trophy season of 2024-25, he scored 674 runs in just eight matches for Tamil Nadu and his batting average was 56.16. He has also been in the pool of targeted players which are shortlisted by BCCI’s centre of excellence over the last 12 months.
The fifth Test against England will be starting from July 31 at The Oval and it is extremely crucial for India. England still holds the lead in series by 2-1 but with the fourth Test ending in draw, India now has a solid chance of levelling the series. Hence, Shubman Gill and co. will be aiming to make the most of it with Jagadeesan’s addition.
