Just as Sarfaraz Khan was set for a high point towards a Test return, a new setback has clipped his wings. Coming on the back of two consecutive tons in the Buchi Babu Invitational tournament, getting into high gear with form and fitness, the Mumbai batsman was set to spearhead West Zone’s campaign in the Duleep Trophy semifinal. But injury has now eliminated him from contention and perhaps from action until late September.
Sarfaraz was named in the West Zone squad for the semifinal clash against Central Zone, set to be held at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence ground in Bengaluru from September 4. His omission due to injury will be a major blow to West Zone, who are the defending champions.

“Sarfaraz is suffering from a quadriceps injury, which he picked up while scoring a century against Haryana in the Buchi Babu event five days ago. He’s set to be out for almost three weeks, and is currently rehabilitating at the CoE,” a source confirmed.

Sarfaraz Khan’s Indian Comeback Might Get Delayed
Sarfaraz Khan has been in exceptional form, he smashed two centuries but an injury at this time will break his rhythm and match readiness. India is all set to play the next Test against West Indies which will be starting from October 2 and with just one month left, Sarfaraz needs to recover in time if he wants to make the cut and book his spot in India’s Test team.
Shivalik Sharma Named as Replacement
In the absence of Sarfaraz, Shivalik Sharma of Baroda has been added to the side. Earlier, he was included in the reserves. The 24-year-old has appeared in 18 first-class games, making 1087 runs at 43.48, with three centuries and five half-centuries to his name.
