The speculation concerning the domestic agenda of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma has finally been resolved. It has been decided and confirmed in the end that the senior players will take part in some of the matches of the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26, which is purely their choice. In ODI series against Australia and South Africa, Kohli and Rohit’s performance was nothing short of great. Rohit was the ‘Player of the series’ against Australia and Kohli was the same against South Africa.

BCCI on RO-KO’s participation in Vijay Hazare Trophy

According to RevSportz, a BCCI official has confirmed that they were not pushed in any way.

“They have decided, it’s their decision,” the official said in his response.

Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma agree to play in Vijay Hazare Trophy

Virat Kohli confirmed his presence for the Vijay Hazare Trophy by writing a letter to the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA). It is also expected that Rohit Sharma would be playing for Mumbai team in the match set for December 24. The two are already in excellent condition ahead of the tournament, with Kohli scoring 302 in the recent series against South Africa and while Rohit scored 146.

Gambhir avoids commitment on Virat–Rohit’s 2027 World Cup future

Yet, Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir, who has just witnessed this latest success, did not give any hint regarding the participation of the two modern-day legends in the 2027 World Cup. Gambhir spoke about after the ODI series against South Africa concluded.

“They are world-class players and their experience is important in the dressing room. They’ve been doing it for a long time. Hopefully, they can continue doing the same, which is going to be important in the 50-over format,” said Gambhir.

“First you got to realise that the ODI World Cup is two years away. It’s important to stay in the present, and that young boys coming into the set-up grab their opportunities,” he added.
