Harbhajan Singh and MS Dhoni-two of the biggest cricketing stars that India ever had-were together in an unbreakable match-winning partnership in India’s World Cup victories in both 2007 and 2011. However, the association between the two seems to have gone awry over time, for Harbhajan has revealed they haven’t spoken in more than ten years. This shocking confession has ignited interest in how these cricketing legends seem to have drifted apart from each other.
Harbhajan Singh, An Integral Part Of 2011 World Cup Winning Team
The peak of career for Harbhajan with the Indian team was the 2011 World Cup. He enjoyed that year where India successfully bagged the World title after 28 long years. Something fundamental shifted at that point, however. Being an integral member of India’s cricketing set up, Harbhajan and some of his contemporaries such as Yuvraj Singh ended up being marginalized progressively in the following years. By the time the 2015 World Cup came to India, most of the seniors had retired, and Harbhajan’s role in the team had given way.
Was Harbhajan Singh Sidelined By MS Dhoni?
Interestingly, that final 11 that played for the 2011 World Cup was never seen playing together again, marking the end of the era for the team. Harbhajan and Yuvraj, both belonging to Punjab, have opened up about how they have been ignored in the years thereafter, and it seems that such unresolved feelings may have led the two to drift away from Dhoni.
‘We Haven’t Spoken, It’s Been 10 Years And More’
“No, I don’t speak to Dhoni. When I was playing at CSK, that’s when we spoke, but otherwise, we haven’t spoken. It’s been 10 years and more. I have no reason; perhaps he does. I don’t know what the reasons are. When we were playing in the IPL at CSK, that’s when we used to talk, and that, too, was restricted to the ground. After that, he did not come to my room, nor did I go to his,” the legendary India spinner said in a conversation with News18.
Harbhajan Singh Reveals Shocking Truth
The last time Harbhajan and Dhoni shared the field for India was in 2015 during an ODI against South Africa. Though Harbhajan is reunited with Dhoni through Chennai Super Kings in IPL a couple of years after that but the bond shared between him and Dhoni on the ground has remained largely professional. Away from the field, Harbhajan confesses not speaking to Dhoni since, which also puts into highlight the disconnection that the two have suffered over time.
“I don’t have anything against him. If he has something to say, he can tell me. But if he did, he would have told me by now. I never tried to call him because I have a lot of passion. I only ring up those who pick up my calls. I don’t have the time otherwise. I stay in touch with the ones I am friends with. A relationship is always about give and take. If I respect you, I hope you will respect me back. Or you respond to me. But if I call you once or twice but don’t get a response, I will probably only meet you as much as I am needed to,” added Harbhajan.

While Harbhajan has remained close to a few of his former teammates, like Yuvraj Singh and Ashish Nehra, his bonding with Dhoni has clearly cooled down. Harbhajan did not openly criticise Dhoni, but his reluctance to speak on him in detail speaks a lot about the strained nature of their relationship. The duo, once close, now apart, seems to have drifted with time, and Harbhajan’s statements are full of the tension that has been going on for more than a decade.
