World Chess Champion D Gukesh was the star of the show at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai in ahead of IPL 2025, making a guest appearance at a Chennai Super Kings (CSK) promotional event. The 18-year-old chess sensation spent time with the CSK team and shared a memorable moment with veteran spinner R Ashwin, who will make his return to the franchise after almost a decade. They had a warm chat before facing each other in a friendly game of chess, much to the amusement of the crowd. The game was especially interesting, considering Ashwin’s image as a strategic player in cricket.

D Gukesh gained the number one spot in January after an incredible performance at Wijk Aan Zee, where he also finished as Runner-up in Tata Steel Masters.

Ravichandran Ashwin was picked by Chennai Super Kings in the IPL mega auction for INR 9.15 crore. In his IPL career Ashwin hs taken 180 wickets in 212 matches with an economy of 7.12. He has played for Rising Pune Super Giants, Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals.
