India’s greatest batter Virat Kohli has highlighted that his international career could be short of another tour of Australia for the Tests. In the recently completed Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Kohli was out of form, though he scored a century in the second innings of the first Test in Perth. He consistently got out in the same fashion throughout the course of the five-match series, playing at deliveries well outside off stump. The Australian quicks—Scott Boland, Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins, and Josh Hazlewood—perpetually harried him to restrict his scoring to a paltry 190 runs in a span of nine innings.
Australia Tour Most Disappointing For Virat Kohli
“If you ask me the intensity of how disappointed I’ve been… for me the most recent Australia tour would be the one that’s most fresh. So, it might feel the most intense to me. But I can’t look at it that way. I might not have an Australia tour again in me in four years’ time,” Kohli said.
“I Don’t Have The Chance To Correct It”
“I don’t have the chance to correct it. So you have to make peace with whatever’s happened in your life. Like in 2014 (against England) I still had the chance to go in 2018 and do what I did. It might not have been the case,” he added.
No Announcements As Of Now, Says Kohli
“Don’t get nervous. I’m not making any announcements. As of now, everything is fine. I still love playing the game,” said Kohli.
“Once you start thinking of the disappointment from the outside, then you start burdening yourself way more. That’s something that I’ve surely experienced in Australia as well. Because I got a good score in the first Test. I thought, right, let’s go,” said Kohli.
“There’s going to be another big series for me. It didn’t turn out that way. How do you cope up with this? For me, it’s just about acceptance. This is what happened. I’m going to be honest with myself,” he added.
Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 Was The Last For Kohli?
Australia has been a happy hunting ground for Kohli on many occasions, and his twin centuries in the 2014 Adelaide Test are a reflection of his superiority. But the 2024-25 series was a different story altogether, with the star batter struggling to find his feet. Had it not been for his Perth hundred, his numbers would have been even more disappointing. Addressing the RCB Innovation Lab on Saturday, Kohli looked back on what could have been his last tour of Australia, speaking with satisfaction on how events had panned out. India lost the series 1-3 and missed the World Test Championship (WTC) final for the first time. Given that India’s next Test tour of Australia is likely to take place in the 2028-29 season, this might have been Kohli’s last opportunity to play a red-ball series Down Under.
