Former India cricketer Vinod Kambli, once hailed as one of the most promising batting talents of his generation, is currently facing a challenging phase in life due to ongoing health concerns. The 52-year-old, who made headlines last year after appearing frail and struggling to walk at a public event alongside Sachin Tendulkar, is still on the road to recovery.
Family Opens Up on Kambli’s Condition
In a recent interview on The Vickey Lalwani Show, Kambli’s younger brother, Virendra, shared an emotional update on the cricketer’s health.
“He is at home right now. He is getting stable, but his treatment is on. He is having difficulty speaking. It will take him time to recover. But he is a champion, and he will come back. He will start walking and running, hopefully. I have a lot of faith in him. I hope you can see him back on the ground,” said Virendra, urging fans to continue sending their prayers and support.

Rehabilitation and Ongoing Treatment
Kambli recently underwent a 10-day rehabilitation program, including extensive medical tests such as brain scans and urine analysis. While initial reports indicated no major complications, doctors advised continued physiotherapy to aid his movement and address his speech difficulties.
Virendra added, “He still slurs in his speech, but he is getting better. I want to tell people to keep praying for him, so that he gets better. He needs your love and support.”
Financial Struggles Add to the Challenge
Beyond health concerns, Kambli has also been dealing with financial difficulties. Earlier this year, his wife Andrea Hewitt revealed she had filed for divorce in 2023 but withdrew it after witnessing his deteriorating condition, choosing instead to stand by him during this difficult period.
A Fighter On and Off the Field
Kambli, who made a sensational start to his international career in the early 1990s, is remembered for his flamboyant batting and fearless approach. Now, as he battles off-field challenges, the cricketing fraternity and fans across the country continue to rally behind him, hoping for a full recovery.
As his brother rightly puts it, “He is a champion, and champions always find a way to fight back.”
