The Emerging Indian batting Vaibhav Suryavanshi made history on December 21, 2024, by becoming the youngest Indian to play List-A cricket. The 13-year-old achieved this milestone during the Vijay Hazare Trophy Group E match between Bihar and Madhya Pradesh at NexGen Cricket Ground in Hyderabad.
A Historic Debut At 13 Years & 269 Days
The 13-year-old and 269-days-old Suryavanshi broke the record once held by Ali Akbar, who had made List-A debut at the age of 14 years and 51 days for Vidarbha in the season of 1999/2000. This marked another record in his tall list of records, not only being the youngest cricketer to debut for Ranji Trophy but also for Under-19 category cricket.
A Disappointing Start To His List-A Career
Although Suryavanshi was victorious in the history book with his first match not as he had expected it. He could face only two balls before getting dismissed by Aryan Pandey and he did get to score a boundary off the first delivery on his debut match. Bihar batted first and were piled up 196 runs in 46.4 overs. Bipin Saurabh (50 off 54 balls) and team captain Sakibul Gani (48 off 62 balls) were the highest scorers.

Madhya Pradesh easily ran through the chase in 25.1 overs with the stellar innings of 83 off 63 balls from Harsh Gawli and completed the six-wicket victory. Suryavanshi was nowhere close to his best, yet in his first match for India, he wrote history.
IPL Deal & Under-19 Success: Suryavanshi’s Meteoric Rise
Suryavanshi recently earned his place in history becoming the youngest player ever auctioned at the Indian Premier League (IPL). At a hefty amount of Rs 1.10 Crore, he was acquired by Rajasthan Royals. Being here, he will receive extensive training under the leg-spinner and former India skipper Rahul Dravid- currently the head coach at RR.
Suryavanshi has already created a name at the international level by impressing all with his batting performances in the Under-19 Asia Cup. He finished as the second-highest run scorer for India, gathering 176 runs from five innings at an average of 44 and a striking rate of 145.45. His highlight performances included blistering knocks of 76* (46 balls) against the UAE and 67 (36 balls) against Sri Lanka.
