The domestic cricket played in India saw something truly spectacular with 14-year-old Suryavanshi making a jaw-dropping entry with a sensational hundred hit on 36 balls against Arunachal Pradesh in a match played during the Vijay Hazare Trophy. This is a feat that came at a point in life where most teenagers are finding their rhythm to start with.

The youngster began to take on the bowling of Arunachal Pradesh from the first over without an ounce of fear in the world. There were no signs of nerves or stages of getting familiar. Aggressive straight strokes, nimble foot movement, and remarkable speed of the bat were evident in his knock as the ball just flew across every corner of the ground. The boundaries just rolled in, and history was in the making before the onlookers could adjust their seats.

His century was scored off just 36 deliveries, second fastest for any Indian in the history of List A cricket. The fastest hundred by an Indian now ranks above him, but taking into account his youth, this achievement seems almost unbelievable. It was not only the immediacy of the hundred that was so impressive but the maturity displayed when shrugging off the attack of top-class domestic bowlers.

Even more telling, though, is the context in which this innings has taken place. The Vijay Hazare Trophy is effectively the biggest 50-over competition in Indian domestic cricket, a platform where seasoned professionals and international stars compete. The fact that a 14-year-old boy has come out and dominated, simply by surviving, says a lot about him.
