Suresh Raina sends strong message to CSK as Ravindra Jadeja-Sanju Samson trade nears its fate

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja is likely to be traded to Rajasthan Royals as he is heading towards an exit from CSK. Jadeja joined CSK in 2011 and he has grown to be one of India’s top all-rounders.

Having started his IPL career with the Rajasthan Royals in the league’s inaugural season, Jadeja has spent most of his career with the CSK. Over the years, he has grown into one of their most dependable performers and even briefly led the team in 2022 when Dhoni stepped down from leadership duties.

But now, both CSK and RR are likely to close the trade deal and CSK is willing to swap Ravindra Jadeja with Sanju Samson. Ahead of the retention deadline former CSK player Suresh Raina has issued a strong plea to the management that Jadeja should be in the team. In conversation with Star Sports, Raina made clear choices about the players that should be retained or released.

“Noor Ahmad should be retained. He’s a mystery spinner, so he must be kept. MS Dhoni should definitely be retained; he is playing this year, so he should remain with the team. Ruturaj Gaikwad should continue as captain. Ravindra Jadeja should be retained again. He is a gun player for CSK. He has done really, really well for the team over the years, so ‘Sir Ravindra Jadeja’ has to be there.”

“Devon Conway should be released. CSK need a local opener, which they will look for in the mini-auction. Vijay Shankar has already received plenty of chances. So I think CSK should release him as well. Deepak Hooda should be released too. There are a lot of players available in the mini-auction who can provide the same combination for the team. These players got their chances last year, and we saw how they played. So, probably CSK will have to look for someone new.”
