Yashasvi Jaiswal has already made a name for himself by converting promising beginnings into record-breaking scores. The 23-year old young left-hander was again threatening to score a double hundred in the second Test against the West Indies at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, but his fine innings were cut short as he got confused with captain Shubman Gill. Jaiswal was caught out after scoring a smooth 175 off 258 balls, studded with 22 boundaries, falling short of what would have been his third Test double century.
After the play ended on Day 2, Jaiswal chatted with the host broadcaster regarding his innings. In course of the conversation, great ex-India skipper Sunil Gavaskar couldn’t resist giving the youngster a small but influential piece of advice. As the discussion was coming to a close as Harsha Bhogle moderated the conversation, Gavaskar intervened and urged Jaiswal to keep turning his starts into big hundreds, highlighting how such performances could be game-changers in aiding India to win games.

“I just want to add to that. Well done, keep it up. Keep getting the hundreds. Daddy hundreds, but because I am a grandfather, I’ll say keep getting granddaddy hundreds,” said Gavaskar.
Jaiswal replied back and said “Thank you sir”

This was the fifth time in Jaiswal’s brief Test career that he reached the 150-run mark an incredible feat that now finds him equal with Graeme Smith for most Test centuries before the age of 24. If he had proceeded to score 200, it would have been his third Test double century, having already recorded two during the home series against England in 2024.
