The blunt assertion by former India cricketer Sunil Gavaskar that head coach Gautam Gambhir deserved not an iota of credit for the good win that the Indian team achieved in the recent Kanpur Test against Bangladesh. This has sparked massive outrage among fans, with many suggesting he must quit commentary and punditry altogether.
IND Vs BAN Test Series
With seven lost days of rain in the second and final Test, a draw seemed pretty much in the offing. Additional pressure was placed on India’s hope of reaching the World Test Championship final for the third consecutive year. However, India was able to send Bangladesh to three wickets for 107 runs in the 35 overs played on Day 1. It was once the weather cleared on Day 4 that they quickly completed the remaining seven wickets and then launched a powerful batting show, till skipper Rohit Sharma, gave them a 52-run lead.

The Indian bowlers then went on to bowl Bangladesh out for a mere 146 before chasing down a target of 95 in a mere 18 overs and thereby ensured themselves a 2-0 series win. Many on the internet credited Gambhir with this attacking type of batting, calling it “Gamball.” However, in his column for Sportstar, Gavaskar has criticized this version, insisting that it is Rohit who should be getting all the credits as Gambhir only became the head coach mid-July.
Fans React To Sunil Gavaskar’s Controversial Remark
It was a sarky position taken by Gavaskar that faced huge criticism on social media with Indian fans asking the former skipper to “stay quiet and retire.”.

I don't understand the people of Mumbai lobby, why do these people get so upset if a player or any person from somewhere else is doing well for the Indian team or earning more fame in any way. Sunil Gavaskar sir, you are a legend so please behave like a legend. https://t.co/J6KzUnaCx7

My constant fear with all my favourite cricketers is that they will retire and then turn into Sunil Gavaskar twenty years down the line.

Gavaskar observed that while the term “Bazball” is a synonym for England coach Brendon McCullum, the concept of “Gamball” is a fallacy because Gautam Gambhir never played in that manner. He further went on to say that this aggressive way should have come through the name of Rohit instead.
He further coined the term ‘Gohit Approach’ crediting Rohit Sharma for team’s success.
