The blunt assertion by former India cricketer Sunil Gavaskar that head coach Gautam Gambhir deserved not an iota of credit for the good win that the Indian team achieved in the recent Kanpur Test against Bangladesh. This has sparked massive outrage among fans, with many suggesting he must quit commentary and punditry altogether.

IND Vs BAN Test Series

With seven lost days of rain in the second and final Test, a draw seemed pretty much in the offing. Additional pressure was placed on India’s hope of reaching the World Test Championship final for the third consecutive year. However, India was able to send Bangladesh to three wickets for 107 runs in the 35 overs played on Day 1. It was once the weather cleared on Day 4 that they quickly completed the remaining seven wickets and then launched a powerful batting show, till skipper Rohit Sharma, gave them a 52-run lead.

The Indian bowlers then went on to bowl Bangladesh out for a mere 146 before chasing down a target of 95 in a mere 18 overs and thereby ensured themselves a 2-0 series win. Many on the internet credited Gambhir with this attacking type of batting, calling it “Gamball.” However, in his column for Sportstar, Gavaskar has criticized this version, insisting that it is Rohit who should be getting all the credits as Gambhir only became the head coach mid-July.

A Shift Towards BJP's Aggressive Hindutva Amid Opposition's Leadership Crisis

The Maharashtra election may further push the Congress down as it has lost the election at a time when it needed a win most desperately. Though the Congress succeeded in pushing the BJP to a corner and stopping it at less than a majority on its own, it failed to make any headway further.
