SMAT: Arshad Khan creates history with record breaking spell ahead of IPL 2026 Auction

Arshad’s sensational spell now stands unmatched in the tournament’s history and further cements his status as one of the most promising left-arm seamers in Indian domestic cricket.

Madhya Pradesh’s left-arm pacer Arshad Khan has bowled a magnificent spell which are now the best bowling figures in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. He took 6 wickets for 9 runs in a match against Chandigarh at the Jadavpur University Ground. The 26-year bowler has also been a part of the Indian Premier League (IPL) where he was a part of Mumbai Indians and Lucknow Super Giants, but then he was acquired by Gujarat Titans.

He surpassed the earlier joint record of 6 off 13 – which was held by T. Ravi Teja from Hyderabad and Arzan Nagwaswalla from Gujarat in 2023. Followed by DS Punia (Services) who had managed 6 for 14 in 2015, while Baroda’s Swapnil Singh claimed 6 for 19 in the same season.

During the match, Arshad was in great control as he struck early in second over removing openers Arjun Azad and captain Shivam Bhambri for two ducks. He completely crushed the top order and Chandigarh was left struggling in the powerplay. Finally in the 19th over, Arshad dismissed Gaurav Puri, Sanyam Saini and Nikhil Sharma which also marked the completion of his six-wicket haul.

Madhya Pradesh also did not have a good start as they were also started at 10 for 2 as Jagjit Singh Sandhu struck twice early. But Harsh Gawali and Harpreet Singh stabalised the innings and completely turned the chase in their favour. Gawali remained unbeaten at 78 and guided Madhya Pradesh towards a dashing win in just 14 overs.
