The Assam Cricket Association (ACA) on Friday suspended four cricketers Amit Sinha, Ishan Ahmed, Aman Tripathi and Abhishek Thakuri following allegations of their involvement in corrupt practices during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025. The decision comes after preliminary findings suggested serious misconduct that could undermine the integrity of the sport.
FIR Lodged, Criminal Proceedings Initiated
In addition to the suspensions, the ACA has lodged a First Information Report (FIR) with the state police’s crime branch against the four players. All of them have represented Assam at different levels in domestic cricket. The players are accused of influencing, and attempting to instigate, members of the Assam squad who participated in the recently concluded Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy matches.
BCCI Anti-Corruption Unit Conducts Enquiry
According to ACA secretary Sanatan Das, the matter came under scrutiny after allegations were flagged during the tournament. The Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) Anti-Corruption and Security Unit (ACSU) conducted an enquiry into the issue. ‘After the allegations came to light, the ACSU of the BCCI conducted an enquiry. The ACA has also initiated criminal proceedings. Prima facie, there appears to be involvement in serious misconduct that affects the integrity of the sport,’ Das said in a statement.
Assam’s Campaign In SMAT 2025
Assam’s league matches in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy were held in Lucknow between November 26 and December 8. The team failed to qualify for the Super League stage of the tournament. While officials did not directly link the team’s on-field performance to the allegations, the developments have cast a shadow over Assam’s domestic season.
Suspension Of Four Players
The ACA clarified that the suspension has been imposed to prevent any further deterioration of the situation. During the suspension period, the four players are barred from participating in any state-level tournaments or matches organised by the ACA, its district units or affiliated clubs.
They are also prohibited from engaging in any cricket-related activities, including roles such as coach, umpire, match referee or any official capacity associated with the game.
Strict Compliance Ordered Across Districts
Das added that all district cricket associations have been instructed to strictly enforce the suspension order. Clubs and cricket academies operating under the ACA’s jurisdiction have also been formally informed of the decision to ensure full compliance.
The ACA stated that further action will depend on the outcome of the ongoing investigations, and reiterated its commitment to maintaining transparency and safeguarding the credibility of cricket in the state.
