Australia leg-spinner Adam Zampa has been ruled out of the rest of the IPL 2025 season with Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) after suffering a further strain on a pre-existing shoulder injury.
Zampa played SRH’s first two tournament matches, both entering the field as an Impact Player. Though both games were high-scoring the record 528-run thriller against Rajasthan Royals in particular he was able to claim one wicket each, figures of 1 for 48 and 1 for 46. Discomfort in his bowling shoulder, however, soon crept in, keeping him out of the next four matches. After persistent soreness, the 32-year-old flew back to Australia for evaluation and treatment.

The injury seems to be a reoccurrence of the shoulder problem Zampa had before the 2023 ODI World Cup, where he finally recovered fully and played an instrumental role in Australia’s championship-winning effort, leading as the second-highest wicket-taker in the tournament.
Though there was some hope of a return later during the season of the IPL, SRH finally decided to replace him with young Karnataka batter R Smaran, 21.

Zampa is now likely to stay out of cricket until late July, when Australia tours the West Indies in a T20I series. He is still a key component in Australia’s T20 team, with Australia gearing up for next year’s T20 World Cup, co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka, through 19 bilateral T20Is from July to February.
