Kusal Mendis escaped serious injury after on-field collision with Matthew Kuhnemann in Sri Lanka vs Australia Test.

Kusal Mendis batting helped Sri Lanka recover from early setback in the 2nd Test against Australia. During the first day of play Mendis escaped a serious injury as he collided with Australian bowler Matthew Kuhnemann. The incident occured after Chandimal’s dismissal in the 61st over. Mendis was trying to take a single but he collided with Kuhnemann, fortunately he did not suffer any serious injury and returned to the field shortly.

Australia’s bowlers produced an excellent performance on Day 1 of this match with Nathan Lyon and Mitchell Starc both featuring on three wickets each. Kuhnemann added three wickets to his total score while Travis Head added one. So much more impressive was Kuhnemann as he followed a nine-wicket haul at the first Test, sealing Australia with a comprehensive lead 1-0 lead in the series. The 28-year-old left-arm spinner had come back in style following a surgery on his right thumb when he suffered an injury during Brisbane Heat as part of the Big Bash League.
