Team India head coach Gautam Gambhir’s tenure has been full of ups and downs as of now. While Gambhir’s beginning as the Indian team head coach began with a 3-0 win over Sri Lanka in the T20I series, whereas Sri Lankan defeated India in the ODI series by 2-0. On the other hand, the Indian team ended up winning against Bangladesh in the Test series by 2-0 whereas suffered a shocking 3-0 defeated in the Test series at home last month. As the Indian team takes on Australia in the five-match Test series from November 22, it will be among the most toughest challenge for GG in his whole tenure.
Simon Doull Takes A Dig At Gautam Gambhir
Former New Zealand cricketer Simon Doull in conversation with Michael Atherton on Sky Sports stated that Gautam Gambhir’s coaching tenure may end if the Indian team end up losing to Australia by 4-1 in the five-match Test series. Doull stated that GG’s tenure can be shorter than that of Greg Chappell. Simon Doull said, “It could be a shorter tenure than Greg Chappell’s tenure in charge of India. We have all either play alongside him or sat with him, we know he can be that gruff type of character. Is it what India need at this moment? Well, they certainly feel they do. He has the history and the backing to be able to sit down with those players and talk to them about how to play the game and how Test cricket works.”
“But it’s a tough ask, and its a huge series coming up. He’s never going to be friendly with the media, but if he embraced it a little more, he could end up having a bit of a cult following. But not sure he’s going down that road. And if he doesn’t get the results in Australia, or its a 4-1 or 5-0, I don’t know if his job continues”, Simon Doull added.
The India national cricket team showcased brilliant performances against Australia on the previous two tours of Australia. The Indian team will be led by Jasprit Bumrah in the absence of Rohit Sharma and he will have an added responsibility of leading the Indian bowling attack as well.
