Shreyas Iyer Will Not Be The Next ODI Captain Of India, THIS Player Emerges As Top Contender After Rohit Sharma: Report

Rohit Sharma’s ODI future is uncertain, and while Shreyas Iyer was tipped as successor, a new favourite has now emerged to take over the captaincy.

The Indian national cricket team is in the midst of a major transition period, characterized by a surge of new faces and a young coaching establishment. The year has seen some key players retire, opening the door for new talent and forcing a leadership reshuffle across formats. Whereas most of the initial half of the year was consumed by attempts to find a long-term successor to the Test captaincy, the attention has now turned to the future of India’s ODI leadership.

With high-level speculation going around on the potential retirement of veteran captain Rohit Sharma from One Day Internationals, discussions have begun over who would wear the badge next. Of the most common names emerging in contention is Shreyas Iyer. His qualification has been enhanced recently due to his outstanding leadership in the IPL, where he took two different franchises to consecutive finals.

“He averages 59 in ODI cricket and is already the vice-captain of the team. There is no way someone who has recently been appointed Test captain, found some success and has age on his side should not take over leadership in ODI cricket, when the time comes,” stated the source.
