Shreyas Iyer injury: BCCI shares an update on Iyer, says ‘Scans have revealed a…’

Iyer was admitted in ICU after internal bleeding. He was rushed to the hospital immediately and now the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has shared an update about his injury.

The 31-year old batter, Shreyas Iyer took a magnificent catch running backwards and dismissed Alex Carey but as soon as he landed on ground he hurt his left rib and the injury turned about to be very serious. He was recently made the vice-captain of India in ODI format after he opted for a break from red-ball cricket as he is already struggling with back issues. This new injury again comes as a big concern, considering India will be playing three-match ODI series against South Africa starting from November 30.

Following this, the PTI reported that Iyer has been admitted in ICU after internal bleeding. He was rushed to the hospital immediately and now the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has shared an update about Shreyas Iyer’s injury and mentioned that:

“Shreyas Iyer sustained an impact injury to his left lower rib cage region while fielding during the third ODI against Australia in Sydney on 25th October 2025. He was taken to the hospital for further evaluation.

Scans have revealed a laceration injury to the spleen. He is under treatment, medically stable, and recovering well. The BCCI Medical Team, in consultation with specialists in Sydney and India, is closely monitoring his injury status. The Indian Team Doctor will remain in Sydney with Shreyas to evaluate his day-to-day progress.”

Shreyas Iyer is still in Australia and he is being monitored closely with the Indian team doctor also with him in Sydney. His participation in the upcoming ODI series also remains doubtful as it could take weeks or months to recover.
