Jasprit Bumrah thinks Rohit Sharma’s decision to “opt to rest” would be an effective move for the Indian cricket team. Bumrah was given the nod to go for the toss for the final Test match in Sydney. He has taken Rohit’s place, who was woefully out of form with the bat, averaging a single digit all through this series.
Shubman Gill Comes In Place Of Rohit Sharma
A strong step for India into the last Test, though series is very much alive and kicking. As an aftermath, the left out at Melbourne, Shubman Gill, makes his way into the playing XI of India. All this came along with huge speculation over the non-inclusion of Rohit; as the head coach Gautam Gambhir had declined giving any kind of confirmation to whether the skipper was available to play before this match.

Jasprit Bumrah On Rohit Sharma’s Move To ‘Opt Out’
During the toss, Ravi Shastri did not ask Bumrah about the reason for the change in captaincy but did state that the mood in the dressing room was “positive.”
“Yeah, the chat was pretty good.
“We’re trying to keep the spirits positive and obviously trying to keep the positives in mind and keep the learnings as well,” said Bumrah
“Obviously, our captain [Rohit Sharma] has shown his leadership as well. He’s opted to rest in this game.
“So that shows that there’s a lot of unity in our team. There’s no selfishness. Whatever is in the team’s best interest, we’re looking to do that,” he said.
Australia is already leading the series with 2-1 and this final Test is very crucial for India if they want to retain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
Rohit Sharma’s Test Career
Rohit Sharma has had a distinguished Test career, scoring 4301 runs in 67 matches since his debut in 2011. He has hit 12 centuries, with a career-high score of 212. However, under his captaincy, India has won 12 Tests, lost nine, and drawn three. While his individual achievements remain significant, his recent leadership struggles and poor form have raised questions about his future as captain.
