Ending speculations of possible tension between them, former India captain Rohit Sharma and present head coach Gautam Gambhir were seen engaged in a lengthy and apparently heated conversation at the first-ever training session of India in Australia on Thursday. This was their first visible interaction since taking India to victory in the Champions Trophy in March this year.
Since then, the Indian camp has went forward with Shubman Gill assuming the role of ODI captain something Gambhir and the selection committee headed by Ajit Agarkar decided. The change in leadership aside, senior players Rohit and Virat Kohli still find themselves part of the white-ball setup, the duo having attended the net session soon after arriving in Perth.

The communication between Rohit and Gambhir adjacent to boundary ropes was the highlight of the practice at the WACA ground. Once Rohit had batted in nets for nearly half an hour, he engaged in plenty of talk with the coach, indicating deliberations on planning, team strategy, or perhaps his own role in the future particularly considering rumors that this might be his last Australian tour playing Indian colors.
In a video posted by RevSportz, both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli were involved in an intense conversation.

Both Kohli and Rohit have already moved away from Test cricket and T20Is, while their ODI futures post-2025 remain uncertain. Gambhir, who succeeded Rahul Dravid as head coach earlier this year, has emphasized the need for open communication with experienced players, especially during this transition under new captain Shubman Gill.

The Indian team came in two groups and will have two more practice sessions prior to the ODI series commencing on October 29. Kohli was also in good rhythm and was spotted laughing with Arshdeep Singh after a conversation with bowling coach Morne Morkel.
In the lead-up to the tour, India’s attention seems to be a mix of short-term performance and long-term strategy.
