Rohit Sharma, is setting a stellar example for cricketers across the country by joining Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy team for a nets session after his poor run in Test format. Reports confirm that Rohit will be part of the Mumbai squad for practice at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Tuesday morning, signaling his commitment to improving his form ahead of the Champions Trophy.
Rohit Returns To Training After Australia Tour
Rohit has wasted no time getting back to work after a challenging tour of Australia, where India faced a 1-3 defeat in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Despite a disappointing performance, with Rohit managing only a handful of runs throughout the series, he resumed training promptly at the MCA-BKS ground to prepare for upcoming challenges. His immediate focus is on sharpening his skills for the Champions Trophy, which is set to begin soon.
“He will be coming for practice sessions with the Mumbai Ranji Trophy team and it is still not decided whether he will be playing the next Ranji Trophy game against J&K. He will inform the MCA in due course,” Indian Express quoted a source in the MCA as saying.
A Potential Return To Ranji Trophy
While Rohit has not denied his selection into the Mumbai Ranji Trophy side, he continues to train in the nets as if preparing for a comeback. The next match that Mumbai will play is against Jammu & Kashmir starting January 23. Rohit last played for the Ranji Trophy side back in 2015 during the match against Uttar Pradesh. However, it remains to be seen whether he would be playing during the next round, with the decision likely soon.
Rohit Back To Basics
Coming out of the relatively tough performances of Australia, this is what drives Rohit back to join Mumbai Ranji with the intention to regain the much-needed practice over the red ball and restore rhythm again. In a total of four Test matches in Australia, his batting resulted only in 3, 9, 10, 3, and 6. Average was abysmally only 10.93.
Expected Return Of Virat Kohli In Domestic cricket
The decision of Rohit has also raised questions about other star players, including Virat Kohli. Kohli, who had a poor run during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, has been recommended to play domestic cricket again to get his technique right for the longest format. Kohli last played in the Ranji Trophy back in 2012, and if a similar call is made for him to play domestic cricket, he might regain his form in Test cricket.
