Indian skipper Rohit Sharma has announced retirement from Test cricket. Rohit Sharma chose to end his Test career before India begins their tournament in England. Through his Instagram story, Rohit Sharma publicly announced his retirement from Test cricket. Rohit Sharma stepped away from T20 competitions before making his announcement. Rohit Sharma has retired from Test cricket just before the Indian team set to pick players for the England tour. Although media reports indicated Rohit Sharma would remain excluded from leading the national team in this upcoming tour. As captain of the Indian team Rohit Sharma led the squad to its first-ever 3-0 defeat at home against New Zealand. The Border-Gavaskar series became a record-breaking defeat for Team India under Rohit’s captaincy when they ended with 3-1 loss against Australia.

Poor Recent form
Rohit Sharma’s form in the red-ball format has been concerning for a long time. In the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 edition, he failed miserably by making just 35 runs in his appearance. Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul started the innings. After the second Test, he chose to move down the batting order before resuming his opening spot for Melbourne’s Boxing Day game, then decided not to play in Sydney.
During the New Zealand test series at home last year, Rohit’s batting averages remained at only 15.16 across three Tests.
