Riyan Parag Slapped With INR 12 Lakh Fine After Rajasthan Royals’ First Win In IPL 2025 – Here’s Why!

RR made a comeback by narrowly beating Chennai Super Kings in a last-over thriller in their last home match in Guwahati.

Rajasthan Royals stand-in skipper Riyan Parag heaved a sigh of relief on Sunday as Rajasthan Royals finally achieved their first victory of IPL 2025 after two back-to-back defeats. Having lost to Sunrisers Hyderabad in their opener and Kolkata Knight Riders in the middle of the week, RR made a comeback by narrowly beating Chennai Super Kings in a last-over thriller in their last home match in Guwahati. But the win had a downside to it, with Parag having been penalized for violating an IPL rule while playing in the match.

Why Was The Fine Imposed?

The BCCI fine was imposed on Parag on Monday for Rajasthan Royals' sluggish over-rate while playing against CSK at Barsapara Stadium. As it was the first such offense committed by the side this season, he was charged ₹12 lakh under Article 2.22 of the Code of Conduct of the IPL pertaining to minimum over-rate offenses.

Second IPL Captain To Face A Fine For Slow-Over Rate

Parag is now the second captain in IPL 2025 to face a fine for slow over-rate, following Mumbai Indians’ Hardik Pandya, who received a similar penalty after MI’s defeat to Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad on Saturday. Last season, Pandya had also served a one-match suspension for repeated slow over-rate violations, forcing him to miss MI’s IPL 2025 opener against CSK.

Still, before IPL 2025, the BCCI amended its guidelines, declaring captains would no longer be match banned for over-rate offenses. They will instead attract demerit points depending on the gravity of the offense such that teams get punished without important players being benched due to suspensions.
