India’s head coach Gautam Gambhir has put an end to the speculation regarding team India’s wicketkeeping choice for the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025. Despite growing debate that Rishabh Pant might be given playing, Gambhir has now confirmed that KL Rahul remains their first choice. Even in India vs England ODI series Pant was benched and the management went forward with KL Rahul.
KL Rahul’s batting position has also become a major talking point after the ODI series against England where he was pushed down to bat at No.6. There have been debates among the former cricketers and many have argued that if India plans to use him in lower order then Pant can bat at No.6.

Axar Patel was promoted at No.5 ahead of Rahul which drew a lot of criticism from various areas. In the final ODI against England Rahul scored a solid 40 runs off 29 balls helping India take 142-runs victory.
Following KL Rahul’s performance in the series Gambhir officially confirmed him as India’s first choice for a wicket-keeper for Champions Trophy.
“KL is our No 1 wicketkeeper and this is what I can say at the moment. Rishabh Pant will get his chance but at the moment it is KL who has done well and we cannot play two wicketkeeper-batters,” Gambhir told media at the series-ending press conference.
