As he walked into the Indian dressing room, Ashwin received a warm round of applause from his teammates. He hugged nearly everyone there before giving a heartfelt farewell speech. In his address, he thanked head coach Gautam Gambhir and also the senior players like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. Ashwin looked back at his career, remembering his first tour of Australia, where he emerged as a rising star while the team was going through a transition with legends like Rahul Dravid and Sachin Tendulkar nearing the end of their careers.
The 37-year-old spinner also talked about the deep bonds he had formed with many of his teammates over the last four years, which he holds dear. Ashwin, who had taken 115 wickets against Australia in 23 Test matches, said he will be returning to India but will continue to follow the team closely in the remaining matches.
