Ravichandran Ashwin made an emotional announcement of his retirement from international cricket during a press conference following the Brisbane Test. Accompanied by Rohit Sharma, the veteran spinner shared the news with the media but chose not to answer any questions, as it was a deeply emotional moment for him. After the press conference, the BCCI shared a touching video of Ashwin returning to the Indian dressing room, where he was greeted by the Australian players, including Pat Cummins and Nathan Lyon. The Aussie stars presented him with a signed Test jersey as a gesture of respect. Ashwin also had a brief conversation with former cricketer Matthew Hayden and other commentators present at the series.

As he walked into the Indian dressing room, Ashwin received a warm round of applause from his teammates. He hugged nearly everyone there before giving a heartfelt farewell speech. In his address, he thanked head coach Gautam Gambhir and also the senior players like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. Ashwin looked back at his career, remembering his first tour of Australia, where he emerged as a rising star while the team was going through a transition with legends like Rahul Dravid and Sachin Tendulkar nearing the end of their careers.

The 37-year-old spinner also talked about the deep bonds he had formed with many of his teammates over the last four years, which he holds dear. Ashwin, who had taken 115 wickets against Australia in 23 Test matches, said he will be returning to India but will continue to follow the team closely in the remaining matches. He assured his colleagues that he is always available for support, should anyone need guidance or assistance.
