Senior batter Karun Nair has revealed that he had weighed the options of playing for Kerala before finally signing with Vidarbha. The 33-year-old has confirmed that he had spoken to the Kerala Cricket Association (KCA) when he was planning to quit the Karnataka side in 2023, but discussions did not lead to a contract.
Karun Nair Wanted To Play For Kerala
In an interview with Malayalam channel 24 recently, Nair revealed that he was considering his options and had approached KCA for a chance. But when negotiations with Kerala failed to materialize as hoped, Vidarbha made him an offer, and he had to make a quick decision and join them. Even though he joined Vidarbha, Nair indicated that a possible move to Kerala in the future is still on the cards.
“There were discussions about it. When I was sure I was going to leave Karnataka, I was look at my options. There was some talk about it, but it didn’t go forward.”

“I had offered myself to KCA, but it didn’t go forward. At the same time, I got the offer from Vidarbha. I wasn’t in a situation to wait, as I wasn’t in a best spot. I wanted to clear my mind and that was only possible by joining a team. So I joined Vidarbha,” said Karun.

Ever since his conversion, Nair has recreated himself, solidifying his position as one of the Indian domestic cricket’s best performers. His magnificent form in the Vijay Hazare Trophy this year earned him a record 779 runs in a mere 8 matches at a jaw-dropping average of 389.50, putting him in the frame of a late-season pick for India’s Champions Trophy team but still wasn’t picked.
