The prestigious Ranji Trophy tournament was first introduced in the 1934-35 season and is regarded as India’s premier first-class tournament. It was initially named as the Cricket Championship of India and then rebranded as Ranji Trophy the following year.
Vidarbha’s Emergence in Domestic Cricket
Vidarbha’s path to Ranji Trophy success started in 2017-18 when they advanced to their first final. Faiz Fazal captained them to their inaugural title by beating Delhi. They defended their title the next year by beating Saurashtra, becoming part of an exclusive list of teams that have claimed consecutive titles.

Since 2001, not more than five teams have been able to repeat Ranji Trophy titles—Mumbai (both times), Rajasthan, Karnataka, and Vidarbha. Now that Vidarbha are near their third title, they wish to inscribe their name further in the books of Indian domestic cricket.

His whack, dotted with seven fours and two sixes, helped Vidarbha post 249/4 at stumps, increasing their total lead to 286 runs after Kerala’s first innings of 342.
