Mohammed Shami, India’s star fast bowler would miss Bengal’s opening Ranji Trophy fixtures as he would be recovering from an ankle injury, as informed by PTI. Shami underwent a surgery earlier this year, he could not regain full match fitness, he last played 2023 ODI World Cup.

Mohammed Shami To Achieve Full Fitness First

Shami has decided to recover completely and then return to the field. Although he had clearly stated that he wanted to play domestic cricket and needed the game-time to gauge his fitness levels for an international return.

“If I need to play domestic cricket to test my fitness, I will. What matters most is being fully ready for whatever comes next, regardless of the opposition or format,” Shami said

Shami’s Absence: Big Blow For Bengal

While the unavailability of Shami is a big blow to Bengal, it gets a huge fillip with the return of experienced players in Wriddhiman Saha and Sudip Chatterjee. Wicket-keeper batter. Saha has first-class cricket way back in 2007. He returns after being banned by CAB in 2022. During the ban period, Saha was playing for Tripura both as mentor and as a player. This season, he is all set to add value to Bengal’s batting lineup.
