The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at last put an end to their years of waiting for an Indian Premier League (IPL) trophy earlier this week, securing a six-run victory against Punjab Kings in a thrilling final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. With Rajat Patidar as their captain, RCB claimed their first-ever IPL title, silencing years of close calls and disappointments.
Rajat Patidar’s Gesture Wins Hearts After IPL Win
Even though a couple of days have elapsed since the historic victory, supporters are still being treated to behind-the-scenes glimpses of the celebrations, with another video recently popping up on social media. In the video, Patidar is observed deviating from the traditional post-victory convention. Normally, the winning skipper signs off the broadcast camera after the last a symbolic act of victory. However, Patidar broke convention and let none other than Virat Kohli have the moment.

Rajat Patidar Wins Title In First Year Of Captaincy
In the clip, Patidar approaches Kohli and urges him to take the honour. Initially reluctant, Kohli eventually gives in and signs the camera, much to the delight of the RCB squad. The emotional gesture underscored Kohli’s legacy and importance to the franchise, especially after his stellar 2025 season.
Kohli, who took 18 long years to win an IPL title, was visibly moved after the final. He scored 657 runs from 15 games at a strike rate of 144.71 and an average of 54.75, with eight half-centuries all in victorious encounters.

Interestingly, Rajat Patidar was only the fourth IPL captain to lift the title in his first year in office, following the footsteps of Shane Warne, Rohit Sharma, and Hardik Pandya.
