Rahmat Shah taken on wheelchair after getting injured – Ruled out of final ODI vs Bangladesh

Afghanistan having sealed the series already will now seek to try out and give depth to their team in the final encounter.

Afghanistan suffered a major setback on Saturday, October 11, during the second ODI against Bangladesh when veteran batter Rahmat Shah injured his calf while running to the opposite end for a quick single. The accident happened in the 15th over of the match when he seemed to be in pain after trying a quick single. Unable to move normally, Rahmat was forced to retire hurt and off the field.

Though hopes were raised that he could come back during the course of the innings, Rahmat’s condition deteriorated. He returned to bat following the ninth wicket to fall in the 45th over, but was hardly able to stand and survived only one delivery before going down clutching at his left ankle in agony. The team physio, Nirmalan Thanabalasingam, ran out to help him, and Rahmat had to be wheeled off the field on a wheelchair.

Without his anchor-like role in the middle order — particularly after hitting a vital fifty in the first ODI — Afghanistan’s batting attack weakened, scoring just 190 runs before being bowled.

Rahmat Ruled Out of Final ODI

After the injury, Rahmat Shah has been excluded from the third and last ODI, which is on October 14 in Abu Dhabi. His loss will be a huge miss for Afghanistan as they seek to take momentum into the last game.

Rashid Khan Shines as Afghanistan Take Series

In spite of the batting woes, Afghanistan presented an excellent bowling performance to defend 190 runs comfortably and clinch the series 2–0 with a match in hand. Rashid Khan led the attack with an incredible spell, taking 5 wickets for only 17 runs in 8.3 overs his sixth five-wicket haul in ODIs.

Assisting him, Azmatullah Omarzai took three wickets, with Nangeyalia Kharote taking one to his name. Bangladesh’s batting line collapsed under pressure as just four batsmen managed to score double figures. They were bowled out for a mere 109 runs off 28.5 overs, giving Afghanistan an overwhelming 81-run win.

Afghanistan having sealed the series already will now seek to try out and give depth to their team in the final encounter.
