PSL: Mohammad Yousuf Gives Big Statement On Shoaib Malik Still Playing Cricket At 43, Says ‘PCB Needs To…’

Shoaib Malik's participation in PSL has raised eyebrows, with a former Pakistan cricketer, Mohammad Yousuf, raising doubts over the selection criteria of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for picking players to compete in such a tournament.

Shoaib Malik, still seen playing on the international T20 circuit at the age of 43, though now he represents the Quetta Gladiators in the Pakistan Super League (PSL). His participation in the tournament, though, has raised eyebrows, with a former Pakistan cricketer, Mohammad Yousuf, raising doubts over the selection criteria of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for picking players to compete in such a tournament. Yousuf asked the PCB to make clear guidelines on who should be allowed to play in the PSL, adding that a line has to be drawn.

The questioning of Malik’s PSL visit is also the result of his off-field role. He was appointed as mentor of the home side Stallions for the Champions One-Day Cup last year. Other retired greats such as Misbah-ul-Haq, Saqlain Mushtaq, and Sarfaraz Ahmed were also serving as mentors along with him for the tournament. Malik’s two roles—mentoring in home cricket and remaining an active player in franchise tournaments—have put the PCB player policy under fire regarding consistency.

“When will Shoaib Malik stop playing cricket?”
