PCB To Take Strict Action Against Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan After Embarrassing ODI Loss Against West Indies

Pakistan's defeat against West Indies in the recent ODI series has only raised alarm bells. Shai Hope captained the Caribbean to a comprehensive 202-run victory in the final game with an unbeaten hundred.

The Pakistan cricket squad is still under mounting scrutiny for its dismal performances in all three formats in 2025, and now players such as Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan might have to face the financial brunt. Cricket Pakistan reported that in order to reduce expenses, the PCB is contemplating axing an important clause from players’ central contracts – a clause which gives them a share of 3% in ICC revenue.

According to Cricket Pakistan, this action is taken because Pakistan’s performance this season has been less than satisfactory. In Test cricket, they have completed three games and won only one. Their ODI performance has been downright abysmal with only 2 wins in 11 matches. The T20I record is a little more encouraging, with 7 victories and 7 defeats from 14 matches, but nowhere near what the top cricketing nation should be looking for.

“Although legal complications have prevented the current administration from ending this arrangement outright, it is likely to be included for the last time in the new contracts,” the report stated

The defeat to the West Indies in the recent ODI series has only raised alarm bells. Shai Hope captained the Caribbean to a comprehensive 202-run victory in the final game with an unbeaten hundred. It was West Indies’ first bilateral ODI series victory against Pakistan since 1991, which marked a big milestone for the hosts. In that game, Jayden Seales ran amok with a six-wicket haul, as Pakistan suffered their worst ODI loss by margin (200+ runs) to the West Indies.

The PCB is, in accordance with the report, reconsidering its monetary commitments, particularly the 3% ICC earnings share inserted into the central contracts two years ago at the insistence of senior players and then-chairman Ramiz Raja. With the team’s ongoing underperformance, the board is said to be contemplating eliminating this clause altogether.
