India’s highest run-getter in Champions Trophy 2025, Shreyas Iyer expressed his confidence in playing at No.4 in the ODI squad further stating that he thrives at the position. The Mumbai born batter gave extra ordinary performance in the ICC Champions Trophy and scored 243 runs. In an exclusive interview with PTI ahead of IPL 2025, Iyer shared that batting at number 4 gives him strong comfort and he feels he belongs to the position. He also emphasized that he wanted to deliver consistent performance to strengthen the middle order.
“I feel I belong to the No.4 position. Whether it was in the 2023 World Cup or now in the Champions Trophy, I enjoyed the most coming as No.4. It gives me a sense of belonging and and that’s where I am able to flourish.”
“I will tirelessly repeat it to provide that balance in the middle order, whenever I represent India,” said Shreyas.
Shreyas Iyer also felt that maybe he was a “typecast” but he always knew his strengths and the abilities through which he could provide immense support to the batting order.
“Maybe, the perception was created or maybe I was typecast. But I always knew my strengths, my abilities and (there was also) the belief (that) I had in myself,” said Shreyas.
“I prefer not to over-think and complicate my current process. For now, I am living in the moment to fulfil my roles and responsibilities with Punjab Kings,” said Shreyas.
Punjab Kings will be playing their first match against Gujarat Titans on March 25 at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad.
