New Delhi: BCCI secretary Jay Shah declared that India won’t travel to Pakistan if it is held there in 2023. Reacting to this strong statement by Shah, Pakistan is reported to give an answer by pulling out of 50 over World Cup that is set to held in India.
As per sources close to PTI, it has reported that Pakistan chief Ramiz Raja and other officers are mulling over this matter. If India decided not to participate in Asia Cup 2023 that will be held in Pakistan, then the Men in Green won’t travel to India for ODI World Cup.
“The PCB is now prepared to take hard decisions and play hard ball because it is also aware that the ICC and ACC events will have to face commercial liabilities and losses if Pakistan does not play India in these multi-team events,” a senior PCB source has been reported to tell PTI on condition of anonymity.
India-Pakistan have not travelled at each-others place since 2008
It has been a decade that two teams have visited neighbour contraries for playing cricket. In the multi-team event, it was in 2008 when two participated in Asia Cup and the year 2012 was last time Pakistan came to India for bilateral series. Due to safety reasons, the two teams don’t play at their home venues but now the multi-teams events are being hosted here. Thus, it will be problematic situation for ICC.
PCB officially declined to give reaction to Jay Shah’s statement but inside discussions have begun. One of the insider said, “The PCB officials are surprised at the timing of Jay Shah’s statement because there is still nearly a year to go before the Asia Cup is held in Pakistan in September 2023.”
“The PCB is wondering in what capacity has Jay Shah given the statement that the ACC will look to relocate the Asia Cup to UAE out of Pakistan because the hosting rights were awarded by the executive board of the ACC not the President,” the questioned.
Jay Shah declined in ACG meeting
Earlier in the ACG meeting held in Mumbai, Jay Shah declared that India won’t travel to Pakistan for Asia Cup 2022 and asked to keep at a neutral venue.
