Kamran Ghulam made a dream debut for Pakistan as he tallied a gritty century for the country on the first day of the second Test against England. Ghulam has appeared composed against the bowlers of England as of this writing and ended the day on 118 runs off 224 balls with 11 fours and a six. The 29-year-old was brought in to replace Babar Azam, who was benched after a run of poor form.

Thanks to Ghulam’s hundred, Pakistan closed their first day of innings at 259-5 in Multan.
Ghulam’s maiden ton finally arrived, after a long wait for a Test debut, he has already set a national record with 1,249 runs in the 2020 domestic season. He was instrumental in a vital rescue job for Pakistan when they slipped into trouble at 19-2 after finding themselves in a spot of bother following England spinner Jack Leach striking twice early on.

He combined to form an important 149-run third-wicket partnership with Saim Ayub, who made a career-best 77, and added another 65 with Mohammad Rizwan, who remained not out on 37 at close of play.

The boundary off Joe Root led him to his first century, and he thus became the 12th Pakistani player to score his first Test century. At the end of 323 minutes, Ghulam’s resolute knock was finally brought to an end by spinner Shoaib Bashir, but Ghulam’s efforts finally paid off after having to wait for so long for such a sweet and rewarding century.
