India’s star wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson has suffered a new injury as he has fractured his index finger after he was hit by a delivery by Jofra Archer in the 5th T20I against England. The injury comes as a big setback as Samson will have to remain out of action for over a month which also keeps him out of the Ranji Trophy quarter finals.
New Injury Setback For Sanju Samson
After the injury Samson returned to his home in Thiruvananthapuram and soon he will undergo rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA). The scans have confirmed that there is a fracture in his finger and the swelling has also increased.

Samson has fractured his right index finger. It will take him five to six weeks before he can resume proper nets. So there is no chance of him playing the Ranji Trophy quarterfinal for Kerala (vs J&K) in Pune from February 8-12,” a BCCI source in the know of things told PTI on conditions of anonymity.
“In all likelihood, his comeback will happen in the IPL for Rajasthan Royals,” he added.
Sanju Samson’s Poor Run In India Vs England T20I Series
Sanju Samson had a poor run in T20I series against England, he only scored 51 runs in five matches and his highest score in the whole series was 26 which came at an opening game in Eden Gardens, Kolkata. The scores of 26, 5, 3, 1, and 16 speak of his continuous battle with the pace attack and how he wasn’t as sound against South Africa in his last T20I stint with India.
Samson Not Picked For Champions Trophy
The injury comes as a fresh blow for Samson as he did not play the Vijay Hazare Trophy following which he was not picked for Champions Trophy 2025 despite a standout performance.

There are no white-ball matches scheduled until the end of July. Samson will have to wait longer for his next chance. The next opportunity is likely to come in August when India will be playing against Bangladesh.
