No schooling after 8th class, struggled through poverty: How Kranti Goud lived her World Cup dream

Kranti Goud’s journey in cricket is nothing but inspirational, she is known for her perseverance and grit. Goud is the youngest of seven siblings and she grew up in poverty even though her father was a police officer, he lost his job few years back which led to a lot of financial hardship. Her brother worked as daily labourers and bus conductors while Kranti was fully focused in her cricket. Kranti lived in tough conditions and could not complete her schooling after 8th standard.

Her talent was first noticed in a casual tennis match when a team short of players asked her to join the squad. She did great with both bat and ball which also earned her the Player of the Match award. Among the spectators of the match was Rajiv Bilthre who is the coach and secretary of the Chhatarpur District Cricket Association. Recognizing her natural athleticism, Bilthre took Kranti under his wing, training her in fitness and technique and shaping her into a leather-ball cricketer.

Kranti was then mentored by Bilthre and as she joined the Chhatarpur Academy and soon she earned a spot in the state women’s senior team of Madhya Pradesh. Her sharp bowling and lower-order hitting were very important in MP claiming its first domestic one-day title in 2024.

After strong domestic success, she was picked up by UP Warriorz in the WPL auction 2025 for INR 10 lakhs. She has showed consistent pace and precision which then earned her a place in the Indian ODI squad. She then went for England tour where she took 6 wickets for 52 runs ar Chester-le-Street which announced her strong arrival on global stage.

Now she was also a part of India’s ODI World Cup winning squad as India won the final against South Africa by 52 runs – the match was held at DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.
