News24 had already confirmed that Rohit Sharma will be playing the Vijay Hazare Trophy and it is clear that he will be featuring in first two matches.

Former India captain Rohit Sharma will be playing the first two matches of the Vijay Hazare Trophy for Mumbai, as tournament begins from December 24. Meanwhile, some senior players will be resting for the initial matches, including the T20 skipper Suryakumar Yadav, Yashasvi Jaiswal who is recovering from gastritis, Ajinkya Rahane, and Shivam Dube.

Rohit Sharma to play Vijay Hazare Trophy

News24 had already confirmed that Rohit Sharma will be playing the Vijay Hazare Trophy and it is clear that he will be featuring in two matches. Prior to the announcement, the chief selector of the Mumbai side, Sanjay Patil, had indicated that the selection panel had selected a younger side and thus, Jaiswal, Rahane, and Dube might not be picked for the opening couple of games.

"Jaiswal, Dube and even Rahane will not be a part of the Mumbai squad for at least first two matches as the selection panel is going ahead with a young squad," Mumbai chief selector Sanjay Patil had earlier told PTI.

Vijay Hazare Trophy Start Date

At the same time, in other matches, India’s Test Vice-Captain, Rishabh Pant, has been chosen to lead Delhi, while senior batter Virat Kohli may also appear for some matches of the home 50-over competition.

The elite group stage of the Vijay Hazare Trophy will be played from December 24 till January 8 in Ahmedabad, Rajkot, Jaipur, and Bengaluru. The knockout stage will take place at the Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru from January 12 to 18.

Mumbai's Matches

Mumbai will be competing in group C along with Punjab, Uttarakhand, Sikkim, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, Goa, and Himachal Pradesh. The 41 Ranji Trophy championship titles-winning side will face Sikkim in their initial match on the very first day of the competition, December 24.
