News 24 Exclusive: Aussie Cricketer Amanda Wellington Who Joined Diljit Dosanjh on Stage Set to Become India’s ‘Desi’ Bride – Wants to Play WPL & for Team India!

Amanda Wellington opened up about her love for India and how she keeps enjoying come back to the country that's absolutely rich in culture.

Amanda Wellington is an Aussie cricketer who was recently in spotlight as she attended famous Punjabi singer Diljit Dosanjh’s concert at Adelaide Entertainment Centre Arena in Adelaide. She even got a chance to go on the stage and gift Diljit a special Adelaide Strikers jersey.

Wellington made her international debut in November 2016 and she has represented Australia in one Test, 14 ODIs and 8 T20Is. She also plays in The Hundred league for Oval Invincibles.

In and exclusive conversation with Rajul Sharma for News 24 in Adelaide, Amanda opened up about her love for India and how she keeps enjoying come back to the country that’s absolutely rich in culture.

Amanda Wellington is already part of the WPL 2026 auction pool and is hopeful of featuring in the tournament next year. She even spoke about the possibility of representing India in the future, once she gets married, reflecting her growing affection for the country.

Amanda Welligton talks about her love for India

“Well, I think ever since I’ve been to India in 2016, I feel very connected with India in terms of going there every year eating food, being involved in the country. The food there is very tasteful and spicy, I love spices.”

Amanda already engaged to an Indian

‘Now I am engaged to a Punjabi boy, which is awesome, his name is Hamraj. We got engaged at the Taj Mahal actually, met his family and got some family jewellery as well. So, I’m trying to learn the culture, speak the words, go to temples and everything. I’m vegetarian as well on Tuesdays and Saturdays, I’m just trying to adopt to the culture.”

“One day it could happen” – Amanda on playing for India

Amanda is already the winner of 2022 ODI World Cup and 2018 World Cup for Australian Women and she expressed that once she gets married then she’ll be having a dual citizenship. So maybe playing for India also stays in prospect.

“I feel like, deep down I am Indian and I feel like in my past life I have been Indian. I will have a dual citizenship, so, you know, Australian India, you know, one day it could happen.”

Wellington hopes to play WPL 2026

The WPL 2026 auction will be held on November 27 and since Amanda’s name is in the draft, she is hopeful of playing the tournament next year.

It happens November 27th, I want to say, So, my fingers are crossed for that. Hopefully this year is the year I get selected and hopefully head to India in January and play in the WPL.
