Chennai Super Kings (CSK) head coach Stephen Fleming has addressed the concerns over MS Dhoni’s batting position and highlighted that it is unlikely that he will be batting above in the order unless there are at least six or seven overs remaining. This decision comes as MS Dhoni is still struggling from knee issues for which he underwent a surgery as well in 2023. His batting position is completely dependent on his fitness and the situation of the match.
MS Dhoni Faces Backlash For Batting In Lower Order
In match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru at Chepauk, MS Dhoni came to bat at no. 9 following which he received a lot of backlash. In response to this, he was promoted to no. 7 in match against Rajasthan Royals where 554 runs were left to be chased in 4.1 overs. But MS Dhoni could not turn the game around and CSK suffered their second consecutive defeat in IPL 2025.
MS Dhoni’s Struggle With Knee Issues Continue
“Yeah, it’s a time thing,” Fleming said. “MS judges it. His body is, his knees aren’t what they used to be. And he’s moving okay, but there’s still an attrition aspect to it. He can’t bat 10 overs running full stick. So he will gauge on the day what he can give us. If the game’s in the balance like today, he will go a little bit earlier, and he backs other players when other opportunities are up. So he’s balancing that.” Fleming said speaking to press on Monday
